"Tatar Zhyry" ("Tatar Song"), Kazan

The First Contest was held in 1988. The Seventh Contest - international and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Salih Saidashev - in 1999.

The next Eighth Contest is scheduled to 2001.

 
The Contest is intended to comprehensively promote and encourage the popularisation and development of Tatar music culture and creative growth of young performers, to perfect their professional skills and artistic taste, to seek new performing talents.

Contest programme suggests performing of Tatar folk songs and their adaptations, the songs of contemporary Tatar composers, Tatar variety songs of any style, whether classical or modern.

It is requisite to perform a song of composer Salih Saidashev. All songs are to be in the Tatar language.

International Festival of Opera Art Named After Fyodor Chaliapin, Kazan

 
The Festival is held annually. The last Nineteenth Festival was held in February, 2000.

The Festival is a most significant annual music event not only in Tatarstan, but far outside it. It introduces opera lovers to the best opera performers of Russia and foreign countries.

Festival programme incorporates the masterpieces of world classical opera.

International Festival of Classic Ballet Named After Rudolf Nuriev, Kazan

The Festival is held annually. The last Fourteenth Festival was held in May, 2000.

 
This Festival attracts the attention of ballet lovers and serves to preserve the cultural heritage of Rudolf Nuriev, the world-known ballet dancer.

Festival programme comprises the masterpieces of world classical ballet.

Participants are soloists of Russia and foreign countries.

International Festival of Modern Music "Europe-Asia", Kazan-Almetyevsk

The First Festival was held in 1993, and the Fourth Festival took place in April, 2000.

The Festival was initiated by the Tatarstan Union of Composers. Since its first steps, the Festival has been gained popularity among the lovers of the modern forms and styles of serious music. It introduces the audience to the most recent novelties of contemporary composers from many countries and attracts the attention of international music community to the music of modern Tatarstan composers.

Participants of the Festival are composers and performers of Tatarstan, Russia and foreign countries.

Regional Festival of Pianists "Pianoforum", Kazan

The Festival is held annually since 1990. The last Festival took place in April, 2000.

The Festival is organised with the aim to seek young talented pianists, to develop the creative potential of the musical colleges in Volga Region, to encourage the perfection of the teaching skills of the magistral staff in the above institutions.

The programme of the Festival comprises contest-shows of the students of Volga Region musical colleges, master classes by leading music teachers of Tatarstan and Russia, concerts of Tatarstan and Russian masters of arts.

Republic Festival of Theatrics Named After Karim Tinchourin, Kazan

The Festival is held biennially. The last Fifth Festival was held in December, 1999.

The aim of the Festival is to develop and raise the standards of theatrics in the Republic of Tatarstan and the theatres of Russian and CIS regions.

The Festival is held for all theatres under the jurisdiction of Tatarstan Ministry of Culture.

It is open for the theatres of the Republic of Tatarstan irrespective of their subordination and professional Tatar theatres of any Russian and CIS regions.
