V.Ye.Alemasov, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics; Head of the Department of Power Engineering, Kazan Science Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences. USSR State Prize winner.

Professor V.Ye.Alemasov is a prominent scientist in the field of theory of heat rocket engines using chemical fuel. He has developed the methods of calculation of complex physico-chemical processes in rocket engines and units. He is the co-author of the manual "Theory of Rocket Engines" run into 4 editions and published in Chinese People's Republic. He is one of the leaders of the fundamental work concerning the creation and development of the system of thermodynamic data on the properties of individual substances and combustion products. During last years professor V.Ye.Alemasov has been engaged in the solution of the problem dealing with the increase of oil and bitumen recovery.

Academician B.A.Arbuzov was a world-known scientist in the field of organic chemistry. In co-operation with his collaborators and disciples he carried out more than 1.000 fundamental investigations in the area of chemistry of carbon compounds which has been called organo-element chemistry. Together with his father and teacher, academician A.Ye.Arbuzov, he made the outstanding contribution to chemistry of organo-phosphorus compounds. His investigations included chemistry of terpenes, dienes, organo-phosphorus compounds, study of fine structure of organic compounds by physico-chemical methods. During last years he has been engaged in the research of spatial structure of molecules.


S.G.Dyakonov, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Rector of the Kazan Technological University.

Professor S.G.Dyakonov is a specialist in the field of theoretical foundation of chemical technology, well-known in this country and abroad. Investigations of the scientist have contributed much to the development of fundamental principles of substance separation processes and formation of computing systems which allow one to carry out diagnostics and simulation of the operating industrial equipment. The developed systems have been commercialised and produced great economic effect. These systems can be used in oil processing and oil chemistry. 2 Doctors and 35 Candidates of Science have been trained under the direction of professor Dyakonov. He is the author of more than 160 scientific works and educational supplies.


I.Kh.Fakhrutdinov, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Russian and International Engineering Academies; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; General Director, Chief Designer of the "Soyuz" Experimental Design Office. USSR State Prize winner.

Under the guidance of professor I.Kh.Fakhrutdinov the "Soyuz" Design Office develops and produces new equipment - special aircraft engines, power units etc. Many of these products are unique in this country. He has taken the lead in solving major scientific problem concerning the use of composite materials in the developments .of design offices and power plant engineering. He is the author of 250 scientific works and 60 inventions. They include a lot of factors influencing structural modification of developments - the improvement of specific mass and power characteristics, increase in technological effectiveness, economical operation, power-to weight ratio. He is the founder of the scientific school of power and mechanical engineering.


Kh.Z. Gafarov, D.Sc. (Medicine); Professor; Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics" Centre of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor Kh.Z.Gafarov's scientific interests are in the field of conservative and functional treatment of the birth and acquired defects, pathologic anatomy, pathologic physiology of the birth defects of the locomotor system in children. The Centre headed by the scientist has initiated a new direction in traumatology and orthopaedics - torsion pathology. Professor Kh.Z.Gafarov studies the medical aspects of biomechanics. Having mastered the techniques of the complex operations he has perfected them and the surgeons of 40 regional centres of the country use these techniques. The scientist is the author of 120 scientific publications.


M.A.Gareyev , D.Sc. (Military Sc. and History); Member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Russian Federation; Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

M.A.Gareyev is one of the well-known military scientists. His specific scientific interests are devoted to revealing the essence and content of the military policy and military doctrine of CIS and Russia, the investigation of the current problems of military art, development of theory of the military and strategic problems. M.A.Gareyev's scientific works have provided the basis for the creation of the military strategic art of the Armed Forces of the former USSR. He is the author of the books "Frunze as a Military Theorist", "Military Tactics", "Tactical Exercises and Manoeuvres" published in Russian, German, French, Bulgarian and Czech languages.


A.G.Karimullin, D.Sc. (Philology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Chief Research Scientist in the Department of Textology and Manuscripts, the G.Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History, Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor A.G.Karimullin is a top scientist in the field of bibliology, the founder of a new trend in the history of Tatar philology. He was the first to restore the history of Tatar book. He is engaged in the study of the relation of Tatar culture with the culture of other peoples. He is the initiator of the Tatar scientific bibliography. He is the author of the bibliographic works in philology, history, art as well as a biographer of the eminent scientists and writers. He has made a substantial contribution to the comparative study of languages of the American Indians, ethnogenesis of the Tatars, archaeography, library science, toponymy, history of the Tatars living outside Tatarstan, Tatar linguistics, history of literature, art and folk-lore.


S.Kh.Khalikov, D.Sc. (History); Professor; Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Chief Research Scientist, the G.Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History, Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor A.Kh.Khalikov is a prominent scientist in the field of archaeology. He has taken part in 100 archaeological expeditions. He has discovered and investigated the archaeological monuments of different epochs: the Palaeolithic Age, Mesolithic Age, Bronze Age and others, the monuments of the ancient Bulgars, Hungarians, Mari, Kazan and the Kazan Khanate. Professor A.Kh.Khalikov is considered to be a leading expert in the field of archaeology of Eurasia, particularly of Eastern Europe and the Volga-Urals region. He is the author of about 500 scientific publications including 20 monographs. Professor A.Kh.Khalikov's works devoted to the study of the ancient and medieval history of Tatarstan, Kazan, the Volga Bulgaria are very well known. Many of them have been published in Bulgaria, Finland, Poland, Romania, Japan and other countries.


F.G.Khamidullin, D.Sc. (Economics), professor, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Science of Tatarstan, State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan on Social and Economic Issues.

Professor F.Y.Khamidullin's works on economics, organization and management of the national economy are widely known in the scientific community of Tatarstan, Russia and the Republics of the former USSR. He playsan active role in the development and realization of programmes of structural reconstruction and stabilization of economy, transition to market relations, conversion of the defence-oriented industry, social protection applied to defenite layers of population, support and development of small buisness in the Republic of Tatarstan.


M.Kh. Khasanov, D.Sc. (Philology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; President of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the Institute of Tatar Encyclopaedia, Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor M.Kh.Khasanov has made a substantial contribution to the study of the history of the Tatar literature including the Soviet period, the Russian-Tatar literary ties from the beginning of the 19th century till the second half of the 20th century, methodological problems of Tatar history of literature. He devotes much attention to the study of the history of Tatar social thought, People's Education, culture, national art. He is a Chairman of the Main Editorial Board of the voluminous Tatar Encyclopaedia. He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications including 5 monographs. Professor M.Kh.Khasanov successfully combines his productive scientific research with substantial organisation work and duties of a lecturer.


P.A. Kirpichnikov, Doctor of technical sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, honorary member of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan academies of sciences, the USSR State Prize winner.

P.Kirpichnikov carried out fundamental research on stabilizers synthesis and action mechanism, structure-function-reactivity correlation analysis, chemical and mathematical modeling of stabilization processes; worked out new approaches to regulation of the destructive processes that resulted in solution of urgent problems of synthetic and biological polymers durability. He was the first to receive the element- and metal-containing oligomers and to discover fundamentally new types of polyurethane elastomers applied in different industries. He is the author and co-author of 490 scientific works, 304 inventions and seven textbooks.

Professor A.I.Konovalov is an outstanding scientist in the field of organic chemistry, the author and co-author of more than 300 scientific works. Professor A.I.Konovalov is a disciple of Academician B.A.Arbuzov. He is best known for his investigations of the reactivity of non-saturated systems, solvation of organic compounds and acid properties of liquid phase organic substances. Considerable progress has been achieved by the scientist in the investigations of isolation and transformation of natural compounds from restoring plant raw material.


Yu.G.Konoplyov, D.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), professor, Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor Yu.G.Konoplyov's specific scientific interests have been stressed-strained state, stability and vibrations of thin-walled structures. He heads the investigations on the comprehensive scientific and technological problems "Mathematical models in shell mechanics and development of the effective methods of the applied problems solution". With participation of the scientist a number of research works connected with the creation of new equipment and technologies, repair of technological facilities, etc., have been carried out to order of the enterprises. Professor Yu.G.Konoplyov is the authors of 80 scientific publications including 15 scientific reports on applied research.


V.N.Likhachev, D.Sc. (Law); Professor; Member of Russian Association of International Law; Member of International Academy of Information; Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Communities.

Professor V.N.Likhachev is a prominent specialist, engaged in international problems. Sphere of interests: theoretical and methodological research on law, problems of international and constitutional legislation, application of international law standards in the activity of national and international courts. V.N.Likhachev was the first who created the scientific school "Gaps in International Law and Ways of Their Elimination," which is recognised among Soviet and international specialists, engaged in international problems.


Professor V.N.Likhachev's recommendations are used in the activity of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic), embassies and consulates of the USSR and the Russian Federation. The results of the scientific research are also represented in his lectures on International Law at the National School of Law of the Republic Guinea-Bissau, University of the Republic of Madagascar, Salzburg University (Austria). His scientific works are published in Poland, Germany, Chechoslovakia, Belgium, USA, France, Great Britain.


Professor V.N.Likhachev is actively engaged in the problem research of state-legal formation of Tatarstan Republic. He has written more than 50 scientific works, including eight monographs.


M.L.Makhmutov, D.Sc. (Pedagogy); Cand.Sc. (Philology); Professor; Member of the Russian Academy of Education; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Rector of the Tatar-American Regional College (Kazan); Head of the International Centre for Development of Educational Institutions of New Types, Russian Academy of Education.

Professor M.L.Makhmutov is the author of more than 450 scientific works and papers. He has developed the theory and methods of the problem education in the secondary and professional schools, theoretical principles of the organisation of educational process, a new system of structure and methods of the contemporary lesson. He studies the problems of education of children and teenagers. Professor M.L.Makhmutov is the author of "School Russian-Tatar Dictionary" and co-author of "Arabic-Tatar-Russian Dictionary of Adoptions". His special research interests have been methodology of pedagogy and didactics, development of national school, lexicology of the Arabic, Tatar, Russian languages and lexicography. A number of his scientific works have been published in Spanish, Chinese, German, Estonian, Uzbek and other languages.


S.E .Mazgarov, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the Research Institute of Hydrocarbon Raw Materials.


Professor A.M.Mazgarov heads the scientific school dealing with the problems of chemistry and technology of sulphur cleaning hydrocarbon raw materials, kinetics and catalysis of the reactions of liquid-phase oxidation of sulphide compounds with metallic complex catalysts. Under his direction new technological processes and complex scheme of mercaptan-containing oil and gas-filled capacitors in the Caspian lowland region have been developed and introduced. Professor A.M.Mazgarov is one of the leading specialists of the country in the field of isolation of sulphide compounds from the passing gases and their use in national economy. Professor A.M.Mazgarov is the author of 155 scientific works. He is the author and co-author of 80 inventions. He has been awarded the title of the Best Inventor of petrochemical industry in the USSR.

E.K. Mikhailov, D.Sc. (Medicine); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Academician-Secretary of the Division of Biology, Medicine and Agriculture, Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Rector and Head of the Department of X-Ray Diagnostics, Kazan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors.


Professor M.K.Mikhailov is known for his fundamental research in the field of roentgenology. He was one of the first in this country to work out the problems of paediatric neuroradiology. He was the world's first to develop the methods for radiological diagnosis of the birth injuries of spine and spinal cord in children and to suggest his own classification of these injuries. His works have won him recognition and authority in the scientific community of this country and abroad. The techniques developed by professor M.K.Mikhailov are widely used in clinical medicine. He is the author of 170 scientific publications.


R.Kh.Muslimov, D.Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy); Corresponding Member of Academy of Science of Tatarstan; Honorary Member of the Houston Geological Society (Texas, the USA); State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan on the Issues of Mineral Wealth Use, Oil and Gas.

R.Kh.Muslimov is a recognised authority in the field of geology and oil-industry. He has founded and heads the Tatar school of geologists and oil industry workers. Under his guidance and with his personal participation the efficient exploitation of the largest oil deposits of the Urals-Volga oil and gas content region is carried out. He deals with the improvement of technology of the "black gold" large deposit exploitation as well as productive strata of low efficiency. In both cases high coefficients of subsoil oil recovery have been obtained. R.Kh.Muslimov has participated in the exploitation of oil deposits of the Western Siberia where he has reduced a number of his inventions allowing one to increase the production level of valuable liquid fuel. He is the author of 79 inventions, 13 monographs, dealing with the search, prospecting, technique and technology of oil deposit exploitation.


R.Z.Sagdeyev, D.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics); Professor; Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan. Since 1989 he has been working at the Maryland University (USA) and at the same time is a Chief Research Scientist of the Institute of Space Researches, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Professor R.Z.Sagdeyev is one of the creators of the contemporary plasma physics, the founder of the neo-classical theory of transfer processes in toroidal plasma. Under the guidance of Academician Sagdeyev the Institute of Space Researches has carried out a number of the unique investigation programs using space vehicles of the "Cosmos", "Prognoz", "Intercosmos", "Meteor", "Astron", "Mars", "Venera" series and the "Soyuz", "Salyut" orbital complexes. He is a scientific leader of the "Vega" international space research project, realised in unprecedented extensive scientific co-operation.


R.S.Saifullin, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of Technology of Inorganic Substances, Kazan Technological University.


Professor R.S.Saifullin is a prominent scientist working in the field of creation of new inorganic materials, first of all construction materials of improved strength, high-temperature strength, resistance to heat and chemical agents for operation under the conditions of high and low temperatures, high pressure and vacuum in corrosive media. His 6 monographs were the world's first on this subject. His scientific contribution includes more than 360 works devoted to corrosion protection, inorganic chemistry, equipment of chemical production, crystal chemistry and mineralogy. More than 100 his works have been published abroad. He is the author of 40 inventions. Metal-containing composite coatings developed by professor R.S.Saifullin have found application in engineering industry, electronics, aircraft construction, as well as in Germany and England.

K.M.Salikhov, D.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics); Professor; Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Kazan Science Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Member of the Presidium and Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the E.K.Zavoisky Physico-Technical Institute, Kazan Science Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences.


Professor K.M.Salikhov is a specialist in the field of chemical physics and physics of magnetic phenomena. His specific research interests have been dynamics of spin systems in paramagnetics, spin dynamics in elementary acts of chemical transformations, tomography, nanolithography. He is the author of 7 monographs and text-books, more than 100 scientific papers. A number of his works have been published abroad. For his works on magnetic-spin effects in chemical reactions carried out in collaboration with a group of scientists from Novosibirsk and Moscow, Professor K.M.Salikhov was awarded the Lenin Prize.


N.A.Sakhibullin, D.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physics, Power Engineering and the Earth Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the V.P.Engelgardt Astronomical Observatory.

Professor N.A.Sakhibullin is a founder of a new trend in astrophysics dealing with the investigations of stellar atmosphere on the basis of new approach taking into account all the processes of interaction between radiation and substance. The scientist has developed new methods of interpretation of stellar spectra which allow one to determine their fundamental parameters with great degree of certainty. He is listed among the most active spectroscopists of the world by the American Association of Astronomers. He has initiated and participated in observation programmes at launching the European and American astronomical satellites. He is a member of the Stellar Atmosphere Committee of the International Astronomical Union.


T.K.Sirazetdinov, D.Sc. (Technology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship; Dean of the Faculty of Management and Entrepreneurship, Kazan Technical University.

Professor T.K.Sirazetdinov is a specialist in optimisation, theory of control and stability of distributed parameter systems, simulation and analytical design of multi-criterion and multimode complex systems. His method of solving variation problems of gas dynamics is world-known as the Guderlei-Sirazetdmov method. At present he is developing the method of solving the problem which is considered to be basic in control and analytical design. The technique used by him has found application in automation design of various complex systems (alighting gears, aircraft wings, etc.). He is engaged in the problems of dynamics and special object control, development of models and forecasting methods of development of the region economy under the conditions of transition to market relations. He is the author of more than 180 scientific publications including 9 monographs.


I.R.Tagirov, D.Sc. (History); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of History of Russia; Dean of the History Faculty, Kazan State University.


Professor I.R.Tagirov is best known for his fundamental research in the field of history of the revolutionary, national-liberation movement in Russia, national state construction in Tatarstan. He has determined the place and the role of the national factor in the social development of the country. He is the author of more than 100 scientific works including 5 monographs.

D.G.Tumasheva, D.Sc. (Philology); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of Oriental Languages, Kazan State University.

Professor D.G.Tumasheva is an expert in Tatar linguistics and Turkology. She has worked out the functional and semantic method in Grammar. She conducts the comparative-historical, experimental-phonetic and other investigations. She has contributed much to the study of dialects of the Siberian Tatars. Professor D.G.Tumasheva has suggested and substantiated a concept that these dialects, considered to be related to the dialect system of Tatar language, historically go back to the languages and dialects belonging to the different ethnic groups of the West-Siberian area. She is engaged in the study of morphological structure of modern literary Tatar language, functional and semantic investigation of Tatar verb.


M.A.Usmanov, D.Sc. (History); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of History of the Tatar People, Kazan State University.

Professor M.A.Usmanov's specific interests have been in the study of the Turkic written sources (in Arab graphic) on history and literature of the Turkic-speaking peoples of the Volga and Volga-Urals regions from the 13th century till the beginning of the 20th century. He is the author of more than 250 scientific works including 10 monographs and collections. The most famous among them are: "Following the Manuscripts. Notes of the Archaeographer", "The Tatar Historical Sources of the 17th-18th centuries", "The Charters of Juchi Ulus (14th-16th centuries)". His works are well-known to the scientific world both in this country and abroad The scientist is the editor of 15 books Professor M.A.Usmanov has developed new lecture courses on the source study of the history of peoples of the Volga and Volga-Urals regions palaeography for the higher school students.


K.A.Valiyev, D.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics); Professor; Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Chairman of the Presidium of the Scientific Centre on Fundamental Problems of Computer Science and Control Systems; Director of the Physics and Technology Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences. Lenin Prize winner.

Professor K.A.Valiyev is an expert in the field of theoretical physics and electronics. He is best known for the studies of nuclear magnetic resonance on nuclei of paramagnetic atoms, mechanism of paramagnetic relaxation in electrolyte solutions, investigations of solids and liquids by IR spectroscopy, Raman scattering, NMR and EPR, solution of the fundamental problems of rotational Brownian motion of organic liquid molecules. He has predicted an effect of NMR signal amplification for nuclei of paramagnetic atoms, effect of Brownian motion. Considerable effort is being made to study the problems of semiconductor electronics and microelectronics, physics of technological processes.

(Philology); Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities; Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Director of the G.Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History, Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan.

Professor M.Z.Zakiyev is an eminent scientist in the field of Tatar linguistics and Turkic philology. He has published 420 scientific works including several monographs, school and higher school textbooks on the syntax of Tatar language, history of Tatar school of specialists in Turkic philology, ethnic history of the Turkic peoples, the problems of international and inter-language relations, bilingualism and multilingualism. Professor M.Z.Zakiyev has made a substantial contribution to the mastering of teaching process being a pro-rector and then a rector of the Kazan State Pedagogical Institute, head of the Department of Tatar Linguistics of the Kazan State University and Kazan State Pedagogical Institute. He has been a Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of TASSR. M.Z.Zakiyev has headed the Committee of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tatarstan in preparing the Draft Law on the Languages of the Peoples in the Republic of Tatarstan.


D.M. Zubairov, D.Sc. (Medicine); Professor; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan; Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Kazan State Medical Institute; Editor-in-Chief of the "Kazan Medical Journal".

Professor D.M.Zubairov is best known for his studies of the problem of hemocoagulation and trombogenicity. Being a top specialist in the field of biochemistry of hemocoagulation he has developed the theory of continuous hemocoagulation in organism. For this work he has been awarded the Russian Federation State Prize. Under the scientist's guidance the work on the creation of dosage forms of fibronectin which has no analogy in the world practice has been completed.
