Foreign economic activities of Tatarstan in the I half of 2002
Foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Tatarstan in the I half of 2002, increased by 12,7% in year-on-year terms and made $1703 mln (in January - June 2001, it increased by 8% as compared to the relevant period of 2002). In January - June 2002, Tatarstan positive foreign trade balance made $ 1306,5 mln. ($ 1160,0 mln. in the I half year of 2001). Foreign countries contributed $1052,9 mln (80,6%).
As usual, commodity structure of export in January -June 2002, was dominated by the crude oil - 59,7 %. Most of it was delivered to world market - 64,1%, and 35,9% to CIS countries. Export of oil products in the I half of 2002, made $ 812,600 tons (422,200 tons in January - June 2001). Export ratio of oil product increased correspondingly.
Trade turnover outside of CIS countries
Tatarstan trade turnover with countries other than CIS in the I half of 2002, made $1388,1 mln. In commodity structure, 87,9% falls on export ($1220,5 mln.) and 12,1% - on import ($167,6 mln.).
Trade balance was positive and made $1052,9 mln. Export was dominated by crude oil - 56,5% (in January - June 2001, - 64,7%), machinery, equipment, devices, transport means and spare parts - 17,2% (9,8%).
In the I half of 2002, import was dominated by machinery, equipment, devices, transport means and spare parts - 81,7%.
Trade turnover with CIS countries
Trade turnover with CIS countries in the I half of 2002, increased in 2,3 times and was portioned as follows: export - 90,2% ($ 284,4 mln.) and import - 9,8% ($ 30,8 mln).
Commodity structure of export in CIS countries was dominated by crude oil -73,5%. Oil product ratio in the total volume of export decreased from 12,2% to 0,1%.
Import from CIS countries as well as from foreign countries was dominated by machinery, equipment, devices, transport means and spare parts.
Foreign investments
For the I half of 2002, the RT economy received $ 292,527,700. As of June 1, 2002, the Republic of Tatarstan accumulated $1,212,120,100 of foreign investments.

Direct investment volume in January - June 2002, decreased by 72% as compared to the relevant period of 2001. Direct investments were sent mainly to petrochemical industry and communication.
