Interview of Timothy Mai Shelpidi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Russian Federation, to official web-site of the Republic of Tatarstan

As we know this is your first visit to the Republic of Tatarstan as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Russian Federation. What are the reasons for your interest in our Republic? How would you describe the situation and prospects of the development of cooperation between Nigeria and Tatarstan?

As the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Russian Federation the reason for my interest in the Republic of Tatarstan is to see for myself the successful model of development and соexistence in a multi-ethnic society. The idea could be sold to my country which is also multiethnic and cultural.

Russia and Nigeria are federative states. Is there mutual interest of both countries in the experiences of our countries in building federative relations in multi-ethnic and multi-faith states? Are you aware of our Republic's experience known as the Model of Tatarstan?

The mutual interest of both Nigeria and the Russian Federation as regards their federating units is to see that their diversity becomes their source of strength, unity and growth.

I am aware of the experience known as the Model of Tatarstan. This was a model of development and coexistence developed by the immediate past president of Tatarstan Mr. Mintimer Shaimiev. This model of peaceful coexistence by political and economic liberalization has led to the economic growth being experienced by the Republic of Tatarstan.
