The Republic of Tatarstan consists of regions and towns of republican value listed in the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Regions consist of towns of regional value, urban-type villages and rural settlements with dependant territories that make the initial level in administrative-territorial division of the republic.

Cities of republican scale may be territorially subdivided to city districts.

Administrative-territorial structure of the Republic of Tatarstan is fixed in the RT Scheme of territories, adopted by the RT State Council.
